Introduction
The Leica Q3 has adopted the BP-SCL6 as its new battery, offering a larger capacity compared to the Leica Q2. (The Leica Q3 has 7.2V 16Wh, while the Leica Q2 has 7.2V 14Wh).
However, there’s no doubt that having a battery that lasts longer during regular shooting is preferable.
In this article, I would like to introduce six settings to extend the battery life of the Leica Q3.
Part 1: Set the EVF frame rate to 60fps.
Set (Display Settings) > (EVF Frame Rate) to ’60 fps’.
A higher EVF frame rate, as one might expect, puts more load on the CPU and consumes more battery.
Part 2: Set display to evf extended
Set (Display Settings) > (EVF-LCD) to ‘EVF Extended’
During shooting, only the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) will be used.
For photo playback and menu operations, the usage of the monitor and viewfinder will be switched automatically by the finder’s sensor.
Part 3: Auto-Off of Displays and Autofocus
(Camera Settings) > (Power Saving) > (Displays/AF Auto Off) should be set to a shorter duration.
Reducing the display time of monitors and similar devices is an effective means of saving energy.
Part 4: Automatically Turn Off the Power
(Camera Settings) > (Power Saving) > (Auto Power Off) should be set to a shorter time.
This will turn off the power if the camera is not operated for a certain period of time.
Step 5: Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth.
Set (Leica FOTOS) > (Connectivity) to ‘Off’.
If you don’t need to connect to an iPhone or smartphone, you might consider turning off WiFi and Bluetooth completely.
If you only need geotagging, setting it to ‘Eco Mode’ will enable WiFi only while using Leica FOTOS, and Bluetooth will be always on, allowing the use of geotagging.
Step 6: Set the autofocus to AF-S.
Select ‘AFs’ in (Focusing) > (Focus Mode).
Intelligent AF and Continuous AF put a high load on the CPU.
